We made it! Hilton Head! More than thirty years ago Mac and I sat for one full day, coffee to cocktails, on the balcony of 837 Ketch Court, my parents villa on the harbor. That day we set in motion the dream of one day cruising our own boat into Hilton Head. Today that dream came true!

As we rounded the curve on the Cooper River behind Dufuskee Island the iconic red and white striped Harbor Town lighthouse came into view. With Greg Russels’ Come Away Home on my iPod on the radio we both had tears in our eyes as we saw the lighthouse on the distant shoreline. Truly an amazing feeling. I had my Dad on my mind. This was his island. I will always feel him here. Today more than ever I’m feeling him with us.

I will fill in the blanks from our previous days in my next few blogs. But today I have to just sit back and embrace the fact that we have spent 57 days experiencing the beauty of Florida and Georgia’s coastlines and have now arrived at my beloved Hilton Head South Carolina.

Our home for the next few months will be Shelter Cove Marina. Slip I11. Drop by if you happen to be in the neighborhood. We’ll buy you a drink.
